Our shit was actually funny though

    Not to our parents.

HOW do people not realize the parallels? Seriously.

We complain about the younger generation’s humor being unfunny or not getting it.
Our parents complained about OUR humor as kids/teens being unfunny or not getting it.
Their parents complained about THEIR humor as kids/teens being unfunny or not getting it.

Guess what each older generation said when it was pointed out?

Our shit was actually funny though

Does everyone expect their tastes to stay relevant across multiple generations?

Because here’s a small list of things we laughed at that our parents either didn’t understand or thought was stupid:

    1. “All Your Base Are Belong To Us”
    2. Hamster Dance/Dancing Baby
    3. Badger Badger Badger
    4. Weebl & Bob
    5. Salad Fingers (and yeah, as an early 80's baby, that one lost me a bit. My sense of humor was already fossilizing. :P )
    6. Charlie the Unicorn/Llamas with Hats
    7. “I’m a banana!”/Peanut Butter Jelly Time

All of that was random, repetitive, low-effort nonsense and noise, from our parents point of view.
    And we loved it.

Our parents looked at our humor and early memes the same way people are looking at '6 7' right now; Confused, annoyed, and completely outside the joke.

All those in that list were our versions of '6 7'.
The only difference now is we’re the ones on the outside, and somehow convinced it’s different this time.

But our humor was not better. It was just ours.

  • The worst meme in the world is 67. What's so funny about that number? 69 is funnier because of the vulgar joke, but 67 Awful
