To be fair, I don't even remember it ever coming up in the game. Not even sure if it was even implied she was trans.

It's said in her one-on-one bonfire scene, but you have to build a strong relationship with her in order to unlock it, so it's one players usually miss their first time playing.
But yeah, she's trans, she talks about struggling with her family because they're more of a conservative culture and won't accept her, which is hitting harder for her during the end of the world.
