I think that's what makes him interesting. Or at least what makes this comic fun to draw.

Some people feel for this Squirrel that used a super small unintentional hint to motivate himself to talk to someone, although he screwed up everything after.
Others are obviously creeped out by his behaviour, as it's natural.
Others redeem him because he's genuine, and naive about his way of approaching things.

I've got the widest range of responses from this character, which was more than expected, but still incredibly interesting from my position.
