Poof as in they expand or shrink? Because that's what happened in the anime. Capturing required it taping into a pokemon, releasing required... Nothing. Some pokemon, like Psyduck and Wobuffet, have been shown to be able to leave their pokeballs without a problem, sometimes it was upon hitting the ground, others, upon just being thrown into the air.

Exactly. Might be convenient, actually. Smaller puts less stress on their back, bigger for the purpose of seduction. Or whatever they use them for besides milk. That'd be the big problem with them, though, they change if you try to get milk...
