Topic: let's destroy thigh socks (a BUR)

The bulk update request #10629 is pending approval.

Reason: A sock is literally defined as a "short stocking", so it has occurred to me that this tag is technically nonsense. Basically everything I'm seeing here I would just call stockings, so I propose to alias all of these tags to their stockings equivalents and reserve socks for the shorter garment.
Also, I feel like this tag and its socks implication is polluting the socks tag with a bunch of stuff that people searching for socks are not looking for. Namely, stockings. THIS is not a sock.

Semi-related side note: the entire denim footwear tag tree is completely empty, and I've never even heard of socks being made of denim. Sounds uncomfortable. Anyone wanna nuke these too?

Correct or not, I've just mostly seen thigh highs referred to as socks.

Can stockings be shorter than thigh length? If not, we could have them imply thigh_highs

So from looking around this is where common use differs from actual hosiery terms. In hosiery terms 'sock' is a length of stocking and the line where it begins is around the bottom of the calf. In common use the definition of 'stocking' includes gender and material- you usually won't see people call thick opaque knitted articles that go up to the knee 'stockings', *especially* if they are worn by men. 'Stockings' tends to be reserved for sheer garments primarily worn by women.
