fr, ive struggled with depression and other shit in the past and its just annoying when people STILL believe its just being sad when ive deadass spent full on days in my bed doing nothing as i dont got the determination to even do anything. dont get me wrong, im absolutely balling rn, but GOD DAMN it isnt that hard for mfs to take a crisis thats plaguing possibly BILLIONS worldwide in a serious light.

ik im barely serious on this site but youre right and i completely agree with you

Same. Absolutely same. I also do think a lot of progress has been made in acknowledgement of mental health, and people understand it better than ever. Though, there's still a lot that needs to be understood and I hope we continue going in the right direction.

it came into the fluffy pony community the same way "plot" and the like became MLP slang: 4chan.

hugbox was initially slang used derogatorily in much the same way as "safe space" and "echo chamber". essentially it was a term used to refer to communities who were seen as, wholey/aggressively "anti-negativeity".

not sure exactly how it came to be used as the cuter/happier genre of fluffy pony; it's pretty much unrecognizable...
I could see someone misinterpreting it to just mean "happy stuff" in general, later using it when talking about some fluffy content at which point it just stuck. there was a lot of board-hopping that when the community largely resided on 4chan. mods on /mlp/ hated fluffy pony, and mods elsewhere hated everything related to MLP (fluffy pony included). perfect environment for picking up slang you don't understand and misusing it.

and then "-box" eventually just became a suffix for genres of fluffy pony content.

If you mean in the specific context of fluffy pony, I'm not sure if there is added context there.

In general usage, hugbox might be named after the actual device, definition 1 here
(which I think originated from an autistic person observing that being in a cattle-crush helped calm them down.)

That's a fun fact. Thanks!
But yeah I mean in the context of Fluffy Pony.
We have weirdbox sadbox hugbox neutralbox abuse controversial as the main group.

Think e621 will start adopting some fluffy pony community terms? It would be hilarious if the infection spread a bit further that way.

It'll be actually helpful as multiple people told me they wanted to see fluffy pony if it was hugbox.
(The other boxes seems to be useless in regards to blacklisting, except for abuse, which is already a tag here.)

do you pronounce it "e six two one", "e six twenty one", "e six hundred twenty one", or "e six hundred two one"

Thinking about what kind of delusion it takes for someone to make 39 separate accounts in an attempt to evade a site ban, having every single one of them banned within days, if not hours, and still continuing to create new accounts.

Why yes, I am talking about SN214549.

Do people actually dislike the trending tags thing or has hating it become a meme? Surely people can't be this upset about it.
But then again I set re621 to redirect the front page so I haven't really experienced how horrible this little list of ten or so tags is.

At first there were people who actually hated it because it showed tags they blacklisted and hated to see them trending.

It's pretty funny to me that I knew what a gooner was 6-12 months before it blew up

I watched the Star Wars prequels for the first time shortly before they became memes. Now I'm finally showing the OT and PT to my mother. We just finished The Phantom Menace.

I don't want this to come off as me venting, it's just something I see a lot online and in irl. I just wish that people all understood that depression wasn't just "being sad." Better yet, took mental health seriously and tried to put in the time to understand the basics of what their friends and loved ones might go through.

"\e[5m" (blinking mode) would be an interesting albeit esoteric 'emote username'.

I tried to make an SQL injection username joke but the DText preview refused to render it so I'm going to not.

I mean, if you're really bothered by a block of inconsequential links on the page that has next-to-no content that you're usually only on for maybe a few seconds per visit, it's not particularly hard to just pop:

.a-home .search-trend-list { display: none; }

into your CSS.
