The Nikon Corporation (株式会社ニコン, Kabushiki-gaisha Nikon) is a Japanese optics and photographic equipment corporation based in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, Japan. Nikon produces a wide array of optical products including cameras, binoculars, microscopes, measurement instruments, rifle scopes, and spotting scopes. Nikon also produces equipment used in the manufacturing of semiconductors.
Originally founded in 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha, Nikon would rename itself after its extremely popular line of cameras in 1988.
