e621:duplicate/inferior version guidelines
[Back: e621:index]
These are informal and unofficial guidelines for determining if a post that is similar to another post is likely to be deleted as a duplicate or inferior version. It can also be used to help you determine if a post should be flagged for deletion.
- If the post is a variation made by the artist, it's more likely to be kept.
- Variations not made by the original artist are usually subject to deletion. The most common exceptions are genital-related edits (gender change, decensoring), translations, and adding color to an uncolored post.
- If there's a watermark, the non-watermarked version is usually preferred as long as it comes from the artist and is not DNP. In the case of obstructive text, usually both are kept.
- Color edits and hue shifts are rarely kept (note that this doesn't include coloring an uncolored post).
- Poorly made edits are rarely approved.
- If a post has been on the site for a really long time, it's more likely to be kept.
- If the images are identical in content, but there is a difference in file quality, the higher quality file is preferred unless it is DNP. Upscaled versions of existing posts are not considered higher quality.
If you feel a mod made a mistake in deleting a post, feel free to send them a polite PM asking about it.
