scp-963

SCP-963-1 is an inanimate object from the mythos of the SCP Foundation website. Its debut story, SCP-963 — Immortality, was posted in November 2008 by a disgraced former administrator, TheDuckman AKA "AdminBright", and was depreciated March 2026 due to the author's abuse of real-world minors.

SCP-963-1, often simply SCP-963, is a 15-centimeter-diamerter metal amulet made from white gold alloy encrusted with 13 tiny diamonds surrounding an oval-cut ruby. Upon its discovery, any paranormal properties of SCP-963 was unknown, but was of interest due to being recovered from the affects of a known occultist whose records intended some purpose for the amulet. The powers of the amulet did not become apparent until a Foundation researcher was killed with SCP-963 in his possession.

When a sufficiently sized and shaped organism has SCP-963 affixed to it — whether crudely with an adhesive or more efficiently worn on a chain — its abilities manifest. The wearer's brain functions will be wiped and overwritten with that of the deceased researcher's, consisting of his personality and memories up to his death and acquired while SCP-963 is active. Bodies SCP-963 has been removed from will be braindead unless it has been worn for 30 days or more, upon which the researchers' consciousness at the time of removal had copied to the body, retaining autonomy. The identity contained within SCP-963 varies between stories, but it is noted that these characters are not SCP-963 itself.

  • In the original story and many subsequent appearances, this researcher is the character Dr. Jack Bright. This character was a site avatar/sexual fantasy self-insert for a former administrative figure, TheDuckman, who (after their retirement in May 2020) was banned in May 2022 when it was found that they had sexually preyed upon on minors.
  • Following the scandal, this character has been retconned in some works to Dr. Elias Shaw: a rough substitute created by djkaktus and expanded upon by other writers. Note that djkaktus has since written another reinterpretation of the characters, Dr. Lachlan Cairns (designated SCP-8586), debuted in SCP-8586 — The Life Everlasting.

A second artifact reverse engineered from the original amulet (designated SCP-963-2) is alluded to in the original story, but any further information was classified.

Despite the 2026 removal of the original story, SCP-963 still exists within the setting due to residual appearances remaining on the website. Further usage of SCP-963 and the Bright character is discouraged.
