Topic: [feature request]adding a section for the "first tager" to specifically thank those who brought the image to this website

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

It's really frustrating to see fewer and fewer things I'm uploading (although I should have used higher quality images in the first place).
Another issue is that the main effort spent uploading an image is on tagging it. It's really frustrating to see your hard work "stolen" just because you didn't choose the highest quality image source. I suggest adding a section for the "first tager" to specifically thank those who brought the image to this website.

For example, there are two pictures: Picture A was uploaded in 2013 and Picture B was uploaded in 2025.If image B contains a tag that is not present in image A, the user who uploaded image B will automatically add that tag to image A.

This is already a thing. Replacement will keep all the tag it originally had.

Does "originally" refer to the tag of image B?

Image A (older post)

Replacement will literally replace the post A with post B.
Tags, comments and votes will all be kept.
It's different from inferior version/duplicate because post A won't appear as deleted

I also hope that the Replacements help page can provide an example to illustrate the situation.

Oh yeah by the way, if it's a feature request, make sure you include [feature request] in the title.

这是我应该做的!Because you've put in some effort for me,This kind act deserves gratitude.

We specifically got rid of that on the post's page because it was causing too much moderation problems. Uploaders were getting aggressively possessive about the posts they uploaded, so they threw hissy fits whenever someone replaced it, even though it wasn't their art in the first place! Oddly, they were more of a problem than self-uploading artists who got upset when someone replaced one of their posts with a superior version. Some power uploaders were especially bad as they could get competitive about getting their numbers up, but others who didn't quite understand how the site works could also get upset.

Hiding the uploaders has eased that problem tremendously. Nowadays, the only place non-staff can see that is to look on a post's Tags/Desc history page.

As @Clawstripe said, this used to be a feature years ago. You could see who uploaded the post first and they would get the "credit" of bringing the post here on e6.
However, it got removed because of the type of environment it creates, which I will mention below.

Your feature request will suffer the same problems as the ones we faced before, which are:

  • (1) You could simply add the bare minimum of tags/effort and upload the post here, in effect making you the "first" one to post here. People will spam uploads without properly tagging them just to get the uploader's credit.
  • (2) This will in turn build a toxic competitive environment where people will fight over who posts a popular artist's artwork first and have their names "credited" next to it, even though they didn't really do anything significant. People have also gone to extreme lengths, such as automating uploads (that they had pirated) which are posted mere seconds after the artist posts theirs publicly. It got so bad that the original artist did not even have time to post here themselves before it got reposted by somebody else.
  • (3) It creates confusion as to who is the artist here since there are labelled as the "Uploader". People may mistaken that credit as being the artist's own account here on e6.
