Topic: Feedback On Artwork Uploads Feature

Posted under General

Firstly, I'd like to say this feature is very cool and nifty for us artists on this site. Though, I do have one bit of feedback to give: some artists really don't like being associated with edits that people make of their works. I don't mind personally, but many other artists do. May I suggest excluding posts with the third-party_edit tag from the Artwork profile tab? I think it'd probably help avoid drama before it starts.

You can choose to not associate edits with the artist tag, just remove it and add anonymous artist
CDNPs that disallow edits are also possible

I don't think we should force exclude it from everyone, especially when sound edits are one of the largest uses of the TPE tag

anonymizing yourself on edits but not first-party versions kinda seems like a silly workaround (this is a systems problem and not a problem with the edits themselves, if the artist didn't like the edit they'd be more likely to take it down), if this is a problem it'd probably be better to just let people highlight some arbitrary set on their profile so that they can include/exclude posts themself.

That would be weird to have an edited post be tagged anonymous artist, when the original would set as a parent with the artist plainly tagged. I could even see it cause confusion and make people think the original unedited one should be tagged anonymous artist too, since it's de-anonymizing them.

I don't think not wanting an edit to be under your tag is that outlandish of a thing, or that hard to understand
just edit the description of the post

I get that, but they're not anonymous, either. Especially if people could also take the anonymous_artist tag as referring to the person who edited the image being anonymous, rather than the original artist. It's just all around more confusing to use anonymous_artist when the artist isn't trying to be anonymous and just wants to be untagged for edits of their art.

It'd make more sense to just leave them untagged (or a new tag made for this purpose) with a note put in the description mentioning the artist by name and saying they don't want to be tagged for edits. IMO, it would be important to say who they are, to avoid people trying to pass (C)DNP artists' work (or edits of their work) off as an artist that doesn't want to be tagged for edits. Since they're not anonymous, the only issue being to not have it show up under their tag rather than knowing it was their art, I don't think it should be an issue to mention them in the description.

I'd really prefer people didn't remove their artist tag for the sole purpose of removing edits from the slideshow of posts on their profile, but I don't think this needs to be a customizable feature (& I'm not spending a month on that). I'll see about removing posts with more than 1 artist tag (discounting sound_warning), then if that doesn't fill the quota, allowing posts with artist tags other than third-party_edit, & then all posts with the tag.

It might also be worth including posts with artist collaboration alongside sound_warning.

Removing the artist tag causes a lot of problems including takedowns, and borders on tagging abuse. I would not blanket recommend this in any circumstance.

An artist not wanting to be tagged on a post does not in any way border on tagging abuse
