Topic: barefoot tag usage clarification

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Using this thread to gauge opinions on how the barefoot tag should be used - exclusively for clothed non-feral characters? How much clothing/accessories should the character be wearing for the tag to apply?

I'm currently in the process of cleaning it up based on its current wiki description (removing it where it's inapplicable from order:random barefoot nude -clothing) but I'd like to know what people think before I fully commit to it

I generally consider "would they normally be wearing footwear in their state of dress?" Since a feral is normally nude, I don't think they should ever be tagged barefoot even if they're clothed, unless maybe they're semi-anthro and almost passing for a clothed anthro. Otherwise, it depends on context; a character that just stepped out of the shower and is wearing a towel around their waist shouldn't be tagged barefoot despite not being nude, while a character that's outside fully clothed except for no shoes or socks would be.

Trying to nail down a clean line would be very difficult, as you get into questions of characters in settings where it's normal to not be fully clothed and being barefoot doesn't stand out. Or when anthros have more animal-like legs and can't wear normal footwear.
