I think flipping it is better since we would go with the most commonly known name in English rather than strictly sticking to official ones or localised spellings (which may be less common). For example:
- Greece, rather than "Hellenic Republic".
- Germany, rather than "Deutschland".
- India, rather than "Bharat".
- China & Taiwan, rather than "People's Republic of China" & "Republic of China".
- North Korea & South Korea, rather than "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" & "Republic of Korea".
