Topic: How Safe is the Safe rating?

Posted under General

I get that it's not a exhaustive list of things for rating on the help section but there's some info that I think should be there. This forum is about safe ratings specially:

  • Profanity and vulgar language

How much swearing would it take to not consider safe and how vulgar can it goes?

  • Drugs and alcohol

If the character is intoxicated, drugged or implied to use (strong) illegal substances, would that be safe?

  • Trama and flashback triggering content

Minor mention of suicidal/threatening stuff as in a "haha you're dead to me" is fine, but what if it's triggering and the tags is not available to blacklist, ratings filter may add an additional protection

  • Explicit reference to real life horrors/tragedy

Things like 9/11 could be troubling depending on the post, especially for the case of Trama and flashback triggering content part

We aren't puritans, none of that falls outside of safe
Hell, literal nazi armbands are safe

I see no reason to dilute ratings like this either, rating filters offer no form of actual protection and the amount of people that know e926 exist or that sfw only mode exists is likely a fraction of a fraction of the total userbase

The only thing that I don't know how to blacklsit is "Trauma and flashback triggering content"
The rest you can blacklist.

If there's something like "triggering_content," it'll sure be easier to blacklist it.

We do not rate things the same way as they do with movies & games. This is an adult-only site after all.

Things are classified simply as Safe (any art viewable in public), Questionable (either in sex or violence), and Explicit (either in sex or violence).

  • Profanity and vulgar language has no impact on how we rate things.
  • Drugs and alcohol consumption has minimal impact on how we rate things, unless the associated consequences are shown in a graphically violent manner (e.g., violent seizures, death by overdose).
  • Trauma and flashback triggering content has minimal impact on how we rate things, unless the associated "flashbacks" are shown in a graphically violent manner (e.g., slit_wrist, death).
  • Explicit reference to real life horrors/tragedy are actually prohibited on the site if they are recent. Other than that, ratings depend mostly on the amount of violence depicted.

I looked about epilepsy_warning, and for the few I saw, I didn't came across any extreme epileptic case. I have seen on discord, gifs that are made to be the more violently flickering possible and I think those shouldn't be safe on e621.
But I founded post #6159785 which I would have seen as questionable.
Then (ok we don't know if he is dead but) I checked at corpse and it's not made Questionable.
There is some content in corpse rating:safe that I think shouldn't be safe. And yes they are corpse content that are "safe".

I agree. The last three examples should not be tagged safe.
Brother Peace had trouble with tagging and rating. I can't blame him tho. XD

if a character is drugged, and not just drunk/high of their own volition, I feel like it should probably be Q or E, at least in most cases. a character just being intoxicated shouldn't elevate it above S on its own.
