Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: spiral_pupils -> spiral_eyes

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #81917 spiral_pupils -> spiral_eyes has been rejected.

Reason: Spiral eyes is much more commonly used, with nearly 14k posts compared to spiral pupils having 551.
The spiral eyes wiki has an example image with spiral pupils, and two of the three examples on the spiral pupils wiki are actually spiral eyes (unless I'm totally misunderstanding them).

EDIT: The tag alias spiral_pupils -> spiral_eyes (forum #482385) has been rejected by @BraixenArchivist.

2 of them under spiral pupils appear proper while this one is not post #1149227 , the one who edited the wiki probably did not notice that the light blue area is the glass surface of the eyeglasses the character is wearing rather then the sclera/iris. A similar issue also explains the error in other, person probably was just skiming over thumbnails rather then double checking the full size images before adding them to the wiki..

Spiral eyes does appaer to be a mess but I dont think aliasing these is a good idea.

There should be a a way to differentiate between these two things.

Fair enough. I had assumed that given the large difference in tag number and errors on both wikis meant not many cared that much. And/or maybe I was too tired at the time to be requesting aliases.

Perhaps instead spiral_pupils should be aliased to spiral_in_eye? Sometimes the spiral replaces the iris, sometimes the iris is there and it replaces the pupil, sometimes it's drawn on top of the pupil.

Finally figured out how to reject my own request.
I've decided to try and work on cleaning up the tags as per Ryu Deacon's post.
Once it's cleaned up I may request an alias for spiral_pupil to spiral_in_eye or similar.

I don't feel like trying to keep a distinction between spiral_eyes (eyes replaced with spirals) and spiral_pupils/spiral_in_eyes will work or be useful. People tried the same with heart_eyes, but heart_eyes keeps getting used for both hearts as eyes and hearts in eyes. hearts_in_eyes is even aliased to heart_eyes, while heart_pupils is rarely used.

The <shape>_eyes tag names aren't clear what it's referring to, and people don't seem to really care about the difference that much. The intent or meaning of such symbolism is the same regardless of the thing/shape being the pupil, in the eye, or the whole eye.

Just as a note, there is a similar tag called spiral_glasses, like the spiral_pupil tag.
Maybe you can also look up something for that too?

I noticed these tags as I was looking for the scary_shiny_glasses tag, which could maybe get aliased to the opaque_glasses tag, which sometimes but not always can include the spiral_glasses tag.

Thx.
