Topic: Am i getting Paranoid?

Im always worried about the Purge Content and the Minor Deletion of their work.

For references, in my experiences, The artist names demagabarega has deleted their work, almost the Pixiv favourite i got is deleted, and this deletion just pushes a button of my brain that cause me getting worried and worried and worried everyday. I can't bear any of this!

Im really interested in this site because of how rich the content E621.net is, and because of artist keeps deleting their works, i tried myself as best as possible to archived their work/post, regardless of the platform they're using. That's why im always being a preservationist towards indie, obscure arts/games because they're created something unique that should be put in the "museums".

There is a common saying that the internet never forgets. This is a bold-faced lie.

You should assume that anything you don't have saved to your own devices will vanish from the internet never to return overnight.
And that's not even mentioning keeping good backups of what you do have.

There are some people dedicated to preserving (some of) the Internet. Some more obscure sites keep copies of data hosted elsewhere, including here, Pixiv, Tumblr... The problem is that a lot of these archives are point-in-time archives, and they don't continually update. For sites that do try to continually 'archive' e621, they usually don't grab tag changes made after the initial grabbing of the file. Theoretically you could use the database export to 'update' them on your own, but that sucks.

Pixiv had almost all of its public posts archived around the end of 2022, so it should be technically possible to retrieve those posts. I don't think anyone has ever written how to actually do this though. Some of the higher ups in Archiveteam probably know but I haven't contacted them. I figured it out after a few days of trying.
If you do know the Pixiv work ID of a deleted post made before 2023 and want me to try retrieving it, DMail me.

Helpful tools for archiving art yourself include gallery-dl for most image hosts and yt-dlp for most video hosts. Those are command line tools and gallery-dl specifically is rather hard to get set up.
Hydrus network is a more user-friendly desktop program that sort of mimics a booru like e621 but offline on your own device. It has some downloading capabilities but they are fairly limited and getting worse with how strict sites are getting about scraping. The developer of it is trying to integrate programs like gallery-dl though, hopefully that will be a thing by the end of the year.

The pie-in-the-sky dream I have is for a decentralized Hydrus network in which Hydrus clients can share files in a peer-to-peer fashion (perhaps using IPFS? It sort of has that integrated). Right now there's the Public Tag Repository which is an optional shared tag database Hydrus can use, but I don't use the PTR so I can't speak to how well maintained it is.

This would be the dream for sure.
I've taken up archiving myself as it feels like the internet is becoming more and more volatile over time. Like I can't trust if a website will just suddenly vanish without warning someday. It's pretty grim but the plus side is with more and more people out there getting into it we can always rebuild so long as we all keep backups

There are other boorus and platforms that you can use for preserving hentai art, sadly you will need to discover them by yourself...

But yeah it's also a good idea to have backups on your own hardware just in case of your favs.

Well if you interoperate it literally, then yes, but it's moreso supposed to be used as a lesson about how once something is on the internet, nothing stops other people from taking it, saving it, and spreading it on other avenues. You can never be 'certain' that something has been scrubbed away forever, because there's always the off-chance someone else has it, but it doesn't necessarily 'always' apply, but you shouldn't ever assume it doesn't.

The idea behind that saying isn't that everything is always archived in some way, but you should never assume it's gone forever even if its origin is removed, because it's impossible to know if someone saved it or not. The point ultimately about the saying is that 'you shouldn't put something on the internet if you aren't comfortable with staying for good, because once it's online, it staying that way isn't just YOUR decision anymore'.

Sadly this. And i isn't just moody artists but also censorship and pressure as well. Slowly the entire internet is on the edge at this moment.

even archive.org, a site specifcally meant to not forget, is being forced by copyright holders and whatnot to delete what they have (in lots of cases for censorship)

A lot of the censorship and pressure come from unhinged folks who conflate fictional characters with real people. Even adults with growth hormone deficiency aren’t safe from the drama.

Yeah, when it comes to "unhinged folks", i think i get what they were trying. It's about Moral Panic. People often frightened with Sex because we live in the world where Violence is accepted, but Sex is unacceptable. or in other words, We living in the Puritan Society. i think this is my best to describe it.

Oh and also, is there any Good News about this Art-Preservation? (like E621.net has been archive in 2025.)

These days having your work online is more than just an innocent harmless gallery, you are constantly under threat of having your art scraped and stolen for AI Lora cloning. It happened to me.

It really damages the desire and motivation to put or keep work online. Until there are legal protections for this like copyright protections you can't expect artists to be preservationists.

Yeah, i get it. But for AI, i also against the Misuse of AI because i seen nothing about AI, it felt empty and i know this is a another challenges to face against the people who uses the AI. i've seen IRL Poster being made by fucking AI, the stickers is AI, the building is AI, EVERYTHING IS FUCKING AI AND I DESPISE IT!!!

I am so sorry if i getting out of hand for this, but still, we want a legal protections and regulation so don't be pessimistic about this, im still have a Hope.

Political affiliation is irrelevant. Many politicians and corporate cronies on both sides of the spectrum are pushing for censorship, surveillance, and AI one way or another.

Same here. Likewise, you may draw something that some rando crusader deems it worthy to dox you and stalk you IRL for. A growing trend. Even though it has always been a problem, it has NEVER been as common or casually weaponized as recent years.

Considering we are on the cultural puritan spiral in the west where, now, people are even attacking anything that reads as remotely non-con - more and more content is going to leap onto the chopping block, broadly. More psychotic sub-30 basement dwellers are going to attack artists for anything they christen "impure." I called this ten plus years ago.

I've seen fellow artists completely bullied off the internet by groups dedicated to doxxing and harassment. Over nothing. Over feral art, or even just aging-up a canonically young character. It's insanity. Not even gonna get into the ridiculously and disproportionately hostile reaction to cub artists, former or current.

When we (artists) post our work, most of us are letting people see a little ways into our souls. Whether a direct reflection of us as people, or our observations, traumas, and experiences. It's not the cold, heartless business transaction many have made it out to be these days.

This is why many artists have gone awol - in addition to AI.
