Topic: I need assistance with my artstyle and helping it get past moderation

Posted under General

My art style I'm trying to get similar to the family guy art style since I like that show and it sits with me, however my artwork has been removed from e621 because its too minimalistic even though that's exactly what I'm trying to go for. I don't know who exactly to message for appeals because I can't figure out the person who removed it, however I would like to bring it to attention that I feel slightly annoyed by this. (It's all furry art, nothing human). I need potential assistance with this I guess and I assume creating a forum is the right place?

I'm going to start this post with a segment from one of my personal FAQs.

Uploading your own art is a good way to get your feelings hurt[.]

Amateur artists will often have a special emotional connection to their work that causes them to overlook their own faults while not excusing those same faults in others: poor coloring, poor linework, etc.

The janitor responsible for deleting the post is visible on the page of the actual post: https://e621.net/posts/6204310

It is a misrepresentation to say that your art was deleted for being minimalistic. There are plenty of other posts with no/minimal coloring, limbs with minimal detailing, etc., but they get to be distributed on e621 because they show better understandings of subtleties like shape language, smooth lines, perspective, etc.

For instance, the fact that the front and top sides of this bench are simultaneously visible suggest that we are seeing the bench from slightly above. Yet, based on details like the toes, arm, etc., it looks like we're seeing the character from directly ahead. This is not realistic unless either the character or the bench is standing diagonally with respect to the PoV.

There are other several obvious shortcomings that suggest you drew the smaller version first, saved it, and then redrew a larger version on top of it. Don't do this. If the original composition is flawed, there's only so much that can be done if you draw directly on top of the old version. You would do better to start on a big canvas to begin with. You can always obscure details by making the image smaller if you need to, but making a small image bigger does not add more details.

Even the people making things like Family Guy have to practice their work instead of just drawing a couple of lines and treating it as a noodly appendage. A perfectly rectangular torso is weird and unnatural. Drawing a bent arm as a vague "C" shape also isn't a particularly great expression of artistic skill: Family Guy's artists try to maintain the form of arms and legs, and you can frequently see clothes folding where these limbs bend.

There is no recourse but to keep trying. Every artist has a thousand bad drawings in them, and your job is to get them all out.

Thanks for the information, I still can't believe that drawing that took me around 10 hours lol. But yeah I drew the low pixel one first because I find it easier to draw in lower pixel environments even if it ends up looking like crap. I never knew you could see who deleted your post from the post page, not your personal posts page, that's where I was confused. I more or less have trouble with depth and... Let's say specific body shapes... I'm able to think of something "really good" in my head, and then well.. not draw it well... I know I've got art good when e6 accepts 1 item, then I will attempt videos because I more or less want to make that too, and if i can make a single image high enough quality for e6, I can use that and make a basic video id hope...

By the way, is uploading my image that the body of the character is a FTU base that I edited and then coloured in against guidelines, because it'd be silly to use my telegram pfp as my e6 one id think.

Do you post your art anywhere else? The more I read this thread,
The more I wanna see the pic in question, firsthand. It sounds
so incredibly interesting the more it's talked about!
Family Guy Inspired, Minimalistic, and also Fluffy—
I'm super curious, Dood!

Plus, I could probably give some pointers like Lafcadio too!
'Doodle myself and also in a Minimal' Style!

And appreciate all peeps' efforts in picking
up the pen, Dood~!

I'm going to be completely honest, it's vent art that involves gore and sensitive topics but I enjoy drawing in family guy and other adult cartoons style (f guy and Rick and morty look very similar) but unless you like depression art, shield thy eyes. No I haven't posted it anywhere else other then 2 18+ discord servers though.

Actually, notkastar, I'm planning on drawing something wholesome this week Incase u ever wanna contact me somewhere else

Art is an emotional process. If you need another reason to distaste bot images,
You can't prompt the emotions that lead a person to draw that line that way, Dood.

As for my personal taste, This quote from one of my favorite games suits me the best!

I've seen my fair share of fun and games on my travels—what kind of jester would I be if I hadn't?
But I've seen tragedy too. People attacked by monsters...all kinds of awful things...

What I'm trying to say, Dood~★
Is that I really appreciate the heads up! It shows your kindness and willingness to give peeps
fair warning before seeing bis that may affect their day! And that I'm saying yes to the
ToS here, And I'm no stranger to seeing some pretty intense subject matter in art! I may
only doodle happy, but I'm no stranger to tragedy, Dood.

No pressure! The last thing I wanna do is force your hand. I will never be curious enough to
cross a line like that. Seriously, give me about 2 days and I'll be on to the next topic.
Never share your art if you're not comfortable with it, Dood~!
╹‿╹)~★

Though if you are, feel comfortable sharing your art I mean, Feel free to get in touch through
DM's here, or the e621 Discord. I should be in there still under the N's, Dood!
