Topic: Tag alias: torch_light -> flashlight

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #81818 torch_light -> flashlight is pending approval.

Reason: I noticed the existance of the https://e621.net/wiki_pages/show_or_new?title=torch_light tag. A term that is usually used as a "flashlight" synonym, afaik, and based on a quick google search.
The tag is right now used in just a bunch of images to define "the light emitted by a flame torch". Imho, it's an ambiguous use of the tag. The tag should be removed from those images and replaced with "torch", and this tag aliased with "flashlight".

Perhaps a disambiguation is needed? There’s also torchlight, the video game, although some of its tags are also just torches or flashlights

I was thinking, do we need a tag for this at all? Like, why are we tagging the light it's emitting?

I think a better tags would be torch, lit_torch, flashlight, and lit_flashlight respectively.

I didn't even noticed there was a version without the space in the middle used for a copyright.
Yeah, 'torchlight' should indeed be changed to torchlight_(videogame) just to be sure. It's veeeeery similar to 'torch_light' and could be easily miss-tagged.

So, Directly from the dictionary: torch light = The light of a torch or torches.
But also, if I search google for 'torch light', I get a bunch of 'flashlight' results from images to webstores, etc.. Also, from my personal english dictionary, I often connect torch_light to flashlight, but english is not my native language.

'torch_light' used to tag the light of a torch is technically correct then, but it's easy to miss-tag imho.

And it's a very specific term indeed, I don't think there's the need of it too.

Mabe instead of aliasing it to 'flashlight', since it would be technically incorrect, should we alias it to lit_torch as already suggested, or even just light?

"Torch" as a term for flashlight is more of a British English thing, much less so in American English where it largely means a stick-on-fire.
