Topic: Renaming Number-Only Tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #13273 is pending approval.

create alias 01 (2) -> 01_(emionix) (0)
create alias 03 (1) -> 03_(emionix) (0)
create alias 31 (5) -> 31_(emionix) (0)
create alias 87 (71) -> 87_god (0)

Reason: Based on the responses to topic #61473, I would like to rename the above tags to make them less ambiguous.

I manually checked for tags in the ranges 0 to 9, and 00 to 99. The only ones which currently exist are 69 (aliased to 69_position), 96 (aliased to reverse_piledriver_position), and the four in this BUR.

Ambiguous tags should be disambiguated, rather than aliased to a specific tag that can cause enough mistags.

I was partway through writing an explanation of my intentions when I realised exactly the problem these aliases would cause. If anyone in future tagged an image with 01, for example, it would automatically get changed to 01_(emionix), which is not what I want.

What I really want to do is rename the tags. In other words, on all current posts (and wiki pages) with the tag on the left, swap it with the tag on the right, so that the tags on the left are no longer used. What I'm after is a 'once only' action. I just don't know how to do it, so I pulled the wrong metaphorical lever.

I should also have specified that I think the tag names are ambiguous, not the tags themselves. The tags have been consistently used to refer to the same things. However, without the tag category colour, it's impossible to tell what they're referring to. For example, 87 just looks like a tag for the number "87"; you can't tell it's for an artist. The replies to my linked forum topic seemed to suggest that this is undesirable, which is why I made this request in the first place. Also, if anyone in future posts an image containing the number "87" and adds it as a tag, that image would appear in search results for the artist... and now I see that my ill-conceived aliases would do exactly the same thing.

I've had an account here for a while, but only started tagging relatively recently. I am trying my best to help rather than hinder, but clearly I still have a great deal left to learn. I apologise for messing up so often, and hope my future attempts to contribute go better than this one.

If you just want a one-time action that doesn't add an alias or implication, a mass update (or just update in the script shorthand) would do that. Although in this case it'd be extravagant as even the 66 posts with the 87 tag wouldn't take too long to do by hand.

I'd put myself in a similar boat with being relatively new to tagging and whatnot, but I'd say that as long as you've learned something for the future there's nothing to sweat too much about. Things like this are pretty common so the replies tend to also be short and to the point.

If the tags aren't to be kept, I would prefer a disambiguation, like Watsit said. I am the owner of 01, 03 and 31. If a disambiguation is approved I will figure out a way to tag them with their full name/title.

Also I was absolutely not expecting my OCs to get mentioned on the forums LOL
