Topic: Can non-public IP be the reason site is slow?

Posted under General

My internet provider does not give me a public IP and propably uses CGNAT instead. Im assuming that a lot of people connect to e621 using the same IP and the site is throttling everything down thinking im (and others) are bots/scrapers. Internet is solid but I feel like few sites are doing something simmilar and im getting quite a bit of "Are you humans" captchas.

Would requesting a static public ip (Gotta pay for that x_x ) would help here?

You can also check topic #47511 for possible reasons for why you are experiencing slowdowns.

The biggest factor right now seems to be the part of the world you are in, with VPNs in the US being the most effective solution.
As mentioned recently by @Mairo on the e6 Discord, this is due to e621 not having a dedicated CDN for delivering content from the US to the rest of the world, so every request needs to be fetched from e6's servers in the US and route through multiple countries before making its way to you. The countries in between may also have restrictions to pornographic sites, which could result in you getting no results or missing images.

Getting a static ip isn't going to help your internet speeds, especially here
Speed issues exist for nearly everyone here, see topic #47511

I would also be extremely shocked if even two people in the same building use e6, according to some banned users it has happened but they weren't really believed by anybody

Before asking for static IP which does cost quite a bit I tried a vpn and surprise it works perfectly.
I em no networking expert so I will leave the conclusion to other people

I would expect this to be common on university campuses, hotels near cons, cons themselves...

Updated

I do actually pay for public IPv4 address on my home 5G connection, but just have service provider NAT on phones 5G (both have public IPv6) and so far, phone is usually more reliable connection to e621 than public.
So I don't think that if you have unique IP or not really effects the connection realistically by itself, but the routing that happens can alter between those.

The times people have claimed this have never been in any of those
