Topic: Need two images replaced with better versions

I was uploading a set of images but after uploading the second image, I noticed the improved quality of the twitter versions over the ones that I uploaded.

Consider reading howto:sites and sources next time on getting the highest quality version possible from these sites.

These are the images to replace:

Here's the twitter source with the better images:

You can replace it yourself by uploading it again and then flagging the two old posts for deletion for being "inferior" to your new posts.
Alternatively, you can request from an admin or a janitor to do the replacement for you without deleting anything, see e621:replacements.

Updated

a couple things
reddit (or redd.it) is actually a good image host now, but it still doesn't appear in howto:sites and sources, so i'll link a forum post i already did on how to squeeze the good image version out of reddit

usually redd.it is much better than twitter because it doesn't seem to compress images, but in this case twitter is actually a little bit better: reddit kept the 32 BPP, but if twitter permits PNG, it only allows it 8 bits of depth, which is enough for the limited palette of this artist (for example [1a] and [1b] have 134 unique colors), resulting in a fair bit smaller filesize (184.81 KB vs 111.43 KB ) at no cost to image quality.

I checked the two versions of these images with GIMP - one version in difference mode on top of another in normal mode, result shows up as full black, so I conclude they're pixel identical there's got to be a better way, i always could have missed some off-shades of not perfect black.

I believe you should be able to freely edit the howto:sites and sources page if you want to add any new insights on getting the best quality images from non-listed websites.

I don't know the exact ins and outs of how Reddit handles uploads, but a preliminary Google search using Gemini AI mentioned that they do not retain the original image quality and will almost always compress images.
Thus, quality could not be guaranteed even when retrieved via the https://i.redd.it/ method.

I also do not think your https://www.reddit.com/media?url= method works for Reddit posts with multiple images, i.e., those that force a ?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=xxxxx in the back of the image link.
However, changing the preview.redd.it to i.redd.it in the full image link could still work in getting the original format and image size.

On another note, I have also made use of the Firefox addon, Load Reddit Images Directly, to load images directly without the annoying HTML interface.

I somehow assumed that that page is edit-locked and simply didn't check. Truly, the real enemy of knowledge is false knowledge.

If the file isn't unmolested, at least it's less restrictive than twitter.

that's not my method.

In case you are going to add anything onto the how-to page, I asked on the e621 Discord helpdesk about getting stuff out of Reddit and @Mairo gave some tips on how they do it:

gallery-dl for reddit, yt-dlp is for videos specifically
Good thing with these two is that they are both kinda core software, meaning a lot of other software rely on them and thus they are generally kept up to date constantly.
Obviously you can also try to figure out how to do stuff yourself but especially sites like reddit, usually require stuff like referrals and other spoofing of stuff as they do not like people getting files but rather get linked to the website.
