Most of NASA's pages use no space:

Ignoring this because it says ILC Dover, Inc.:

Wikipedia don't:

We go by e6's rules. It seems spacesuit has more tags, so unless there's a good reason to alias to space_suit, such as to keep with precedents. The fact that it's not one of the cases where precedent exists makes it more likely to end up as space_suit -a-> spacesuit.

There's already 1 space in it, we don't need two. :V

But seriously, it looks like every authority on the subject is a little split on whether it's one word or two. Using both spellings interchangeably within the same thing is also widespread. The majority of dictionaries seem to be using the single word version, making it more the more official spelling (for what it's worth). I think either one is acceptable right now, it just comes down to which one makes a better tag.

spacesuit (151) --more used, no pesky underscore to cause havok, technically the more official spelling
space_suit (33) --less used, underscores are not ideal in tags, technically a less official/outdated spelling

In terms of *_suit vs *suit in tag patterns, a lot of those tags wouldn't be equally as clear if they were written the other way. So I don't think there's any practical way to systematize these. Space_suit/spacesuit is actually one of the few in there that are versatile enough to work equally well with either spelling.

Honestly, I'm leaning towards aliasing it as space_suit to --> spacesuit for this.

Because the tag numbers don't effing lie. +1 to space_suit -a-> spacesuit.

This alias doesn't seem to work, currently there are about 30 pics with space_suit. And IMO the alias should be the other way around, the correct grammar is "space suit". Well, at least Wikipedia says so, and when it is on Wikipedia, then it must be true (screw NASA who actually made the things, what do they know):

I'll re-approve this one for now to clear out the tag, but the alias itself not working is a known issue. There's been some recent issues with aliases that prevent them from processing, but we're working on a fix.

Meh. If you go to the talk page the second link says they're both correct. I assume they did what we did: pick one more/less arbitrarily and stuck with it.
